When you think of the installation process for new heating and cooling systems, what do you envision? Most people imagine a team of professionals coming to their home, installing new equipment in an hour or two, and leaving like they were never there.
But is that really how it goes? Is it as simple as ABC (A comes before B)? Well not quite. When Top Gun Heating and Air installs your new system, here’s what to expect:
How long does it take to install a new heating and cooling system?
Most heating and cooling systems will take between one to two days to install properly.
For heating systems, if you can you’ll want to heat up your home before installation. This means that during cold months, heating will need to be running for at least 24 hours prior to installation.
For cooling systems, it depends on your preferences- while most homeowners prefer a full day of cool air before an HVAC crew comes out and makes adjustments or installs new equipment, this may not always be possible.
Do I need to be home for the installation?
In most cases, yes. This is because heating and cooling systems are a full-length replacement process where homeowners need to be aware of what’s going on at all times during installation.
But don’t worry! We offer service agreements that include quarterly heating tune ups or air filter changes so you won’t have to miss out on anything once your new system has been installed. In addition, if you do plan on being home for the installation but can not stay in one place for an extended period of time (due to work/travel purposes) we’ll always try our best to accommodate your schedule.
What happens with my old system?
We’ll remove your old heating and cooling system whether it is gas, oil or electric. Depending on the difficulty of removal- this process can take anywhere from one to four hours.
Per EPA regulations we will recover any refrigerant for reclaiming and recycle the old indoor and outdoor portions of your old system.
How many technicians will install my new system?
In most heating and cooling installations, there will be two to four technicians from Top Gun Heating and Air on your property.
This ensures that the project runs smoothly- keeping installation time down while increasing a job’s quality. This is especially important when it comes to heating systems because having more than one technician allows us to have someone watching multiple rooms of your home at all times. This way we can ensure that heating elements are being installed correctly in every room so you don’t get any cold spots after the system has been turned on for 24 hours following completion of installation process.
Once heating installation is complete, our technicians will turn their attention towards installing new equipment or making adjustments if necessary before moving onto air conditioning units (if applicable).
Is insulation required around my ductwork when a new heating and cooling system is installed?
During heating system installation, insulation may be required around your heating ductwork to ensure that you’re heating elements are capable of heating every square inch of your home.
This is especially true for older homes or homes with less than optimal insulation in walls and ceilings. While this step does increase the amount it will cost during installation- we highly recommend taking part as not doing so can result in hot/cold spots throughout your home post completion of heating replacement process.
We proudly install Owens Corning insulation. To read more about our attic insulation kits click here.
And even though Top Gun Heating and Air offers financing options (with approved credit) paying out-of-pocket here won’t break the bank either!
Do they have to disconnect my gas, water or electric for installation?
In most heating and cooling replacements, it is required that all gas lines are turned off prior to installation.
This ensures safety for our technicians as well as your family so please be sure to have this step completed before any heating system replacement project begins! This applies to both natural gas or propane heating systems.
For water connections- unless you plan on disconnecting them yourself there’s no need for concern because we will handle turning these valves off during heating installation process.
Last but most certainly not least- electric! While it might seem like a no brainer that electricity would need to be cut for heating and cooling replacement project its always best to check just in case with local utility company (its free) prior installation day/time so all possible concerns can be alleviated beforehand. This prevents delays which could lead towards additional costs being tacked onto final bill during heating installation.
Will they cover my hardwood floors with something?
During heating and cooling replacement process, your technicians will cover hardwood flooring with a plastic sheet to protect it from any damage that may occur during installation.
This helps save the floor underneath as well as provide safety for everyone involved by preventing accidental slips or falls- especially when carrying equipment across room.
Once heating and air conditioning units have been installed this temporary covering is removed so you can continue using home just like normal!
